1. Introduction

Welcome to The Signal.

The Signal is a digital community, media, personal-development, and creator-empowerment platform operated by Culture Signal Media and its affiliated brands, products, and services. In this Privacy Policy, we refer to these entities collectively as "Culture Signal Media," "we," "us," or "our."

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information when you access or use:

The Signal mobile application;

The Signal website and web application;

Culture Signal Radio;

Beacon and other artificial-intelligence-assisted features;

My Journey and related goal-development tools;

Community, creator, educational, event, messaging, and media features;

Paid memberships, subscriptions, purchases, and creator services; and

Any other digital service that links to this Privacy Policy.

Collectively, these are referred to as the "Services."

By accessing or using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy should be read together with The Signal's Terms of Use, Community Standards, and any additional notices presented when you use a particular feature.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use The Signal, the features you activate, the permissions you grant, and the information you choose to provide.

2.1 Account and Registration Information

When you create or manage an account, we may collect:

Your name;

Username or display name;

Email address;

Telephone number;

Password or authentication credentials;

Profile photograph or avatar;

Date of birth or age range;

General location, such as city, state, or country;

Professional title, company, business, or creator information;

Interests, skills, goals, and community preferences;

Account type, membership level, or subscription status; and

Information used to confirm, secure, or recover your account.

Passwords should be stored in encrypted or securely hashed form. We do not maintain readable copies of account passwords.

2.2 Profile and Community Information

The Signal is designed to facilitate communication and community participation. Depending on your privacy settings and activity, we may collect and display:

Profile biographies and personal descriptions;

Interests, affiliations, experiences, and areas of expertise;

Posts, comments, reactions, likes, shares, and saved content;

Photographs, graphics, audio, video, documents, and links;

Groups, communities, events, or programs you join;

Friends, followers, connections, or membership relationships;

Businesses, creators, programs, or resources you follow;

Event registrations and participation information; and

Reports, blocks, moderation appeals, and other safety-related activity.

Information you post publicly or share within a community may be viewed, copied, saved, reshared, or captured by other users. You should not post information that you do not want others to access.

2.3 Private Messages and Communications

When you use private messaging, chat, support, or similar communication features, we may process:

Message content;

Sender and recipient information;

Message dates, times, delivery status, and related metadata;

Attachments, images, audio, video, or links included in a message; and

Information submitted through reports involving a message or conversation.

Private messages are not publicly displayed. However, we may access, preserve, or review messages when reasonably necessary to:

Deliver and maintain the messaging service;

Investigate reported abuse, threats, fraud, harassment, or safety concerns;

Enforce our Terms of Use and Community Standards;

Respond to lawful legal requests;

Protect users, Culture Signal Media, or the public; or

Diagnose technical or security problems.

We do not use the contents of private messages to target advertising to you.

2.4 My Journey and Personal-Development Information

When you use My Journey, goal planning, personal assessments, check-ins, or similar features, you may choose to provide information concerning:

Personal, professional, or educational goals;

Career plans and employment interests;

Financial goals;

Habits, routines, milestones, and priorities;

Relationships, leadership, purpose, or legacy goals;

Personal challenges and areas of desired growth;

Wellness or lifestyle objectives;

Assessment responses;

Progress updates and completion status; and

Notes, reflections, or action plans.

Some information you voluntarily provide could be considered sensitive under applicable law. You are not required to provide sensitive information to use the general community and media portions of The Signal.

The Signal is not a healthcare provider, medical-record system, financial institution, therapist, or emergency service. Do not upload medical records, Social Security numbers, financial account credentials, or other highly sensitive information unless a specific feature clearly requests it and explains why it is needed.

We do not use information entered into My Journey to target third-party advertising.

2.5 Beacon and Artificial Intelligence Information

Beacon is The Signal's digital guide. When you use Beacon or another AI-assisted feature, we may process:

Questions, prompts, instructions, and responses;

Information you choose to share during a Beacon conversation;

Relevant profile preferences, goals, or prior activity that you authorize Beacon to use;

Voice recordings or transcripts when voice features are enabled;

Generated plans, recommendations, summaries, and other outputs;

Feedback you provide regarding an AI-generated response; and

Technical information needed to operate, evaluate, secure, and improve the feature.

Beacon inputs and outputs may be transmitted to contracted artificial-intelligence, cloud-computing, transcription, or infrastructure providers that help us deliver the feature.

We do not use Beacon conversations to target third-party advertising. We also do not permit Beacon conversations to be used to train unrelated, general-purpose artificial-intelligence models unless we first provide a separate notice and obtain consent when required.

Beacon may generate inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate information. Beacon's responses are provided for general educational and informational purposes and should not be treated as professional medical, legal, financial, mental-health, or emergency advice.

Do not provide Beacon with information you would not want processed by Culture Signal Media and its contracted technology providers.

2.6 Radio, Podcast, Video, and Media Activity

When you access Culture Signal Radio, podcasts, interviews, video, livestreams, or other media, we may collect:

Content viewed or played;

Playback position and duration;

Listening and viewing history;

Saved programs and playlists;

Likes, reactions, and shares;

Search activity;

Device and streaming information; and

Content recommendations and engagement data.

We use this information to operate media features, maintain playback progress, understand audience engagement, and recommend relevant content.

2.7 Creator, Business, and Educational Information

If you apply for or participate in creator, business, mentorship, academy, sponsorship, advertising, partnership, or professional opportunities, we may collect:

Business or organization name;

Professional biography;

Portfolio, website, or social-media links;

Content samples;

Areas of expertise;

Services, products, or programs offered;

Audience and engagement information;

Application and review information;

Tax or payment information when legally required;

Sponsorship, advertising, or campaign information; and

Communications concerning your participation.

2.8 Purchase and Subscription Information

When you make a purchase, subscribe to a membership, register for a paid event, or purchase creator or educational services, payment information may be processed by Google Play, a payment processor, financial institution, or other commerce provider.

Culture Signal Media may receive:

Your name and contact information;

Transaction or order number;

Product, service, or subscription purchased;

Purchase date and amount;

Payment status;

Subscription status and renewal information;

Refund or cancellation information; and

Limited billing-related information.

We do not intend to directly store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes. Those details are generally handled by the applicable payment processor.

Purchases made through Google Play are also subject to Google Play's applicable payment and privacy terms.

2.9 Device, Technical, and Usage Information

When you use the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect:

Device type, manufacturer, and model;

Operating system and app version;

Browser type and language;

Internet Protocol address;

Device or advertising identifiers, where permitted;

Date, time, and duration of activity;

Pages, screens, buttons, and features accessed;

Referring and exit pages;

Network and connection information;

App installation and update information;

Crash reports, diagnostic logs, and performance information;

Authentication and security events; and

General geographic information inferred from an IP address.

We use this information to operate, secure, troubleshoot, measure, and improve the Services.

2.10 Device Permissions

Some features may request permission to access information or capabilities on your device.

These may include:

Camera: To capture profile images, posts, video, or other content.

Photos and media: To upload, save, or share images, audio, video, and documents.

Microphone: To record audio, participate in voice features, or use voice-enabled Beacon functions.

Notifications: To send account, community, message, media, event, and security notifications.

Location: To provide location-relevant events, businesses, services, or community information when such features are enabled.

Contacts: To help locate people you may know, but only when you deliberately activate the feature and grant permission.

You can manage device permissions through your device settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the related feature from functioning.

We will not access precise location or device contacts unless the feature requires it, you have been given an appropriate explanation, and you grant permission.

2.11 Third-Party Sign-In Information

If you sign into The Signal through Google or another identity provider, we may receive information authorized through that provider, such as:

Name;

Email address;

Profile image;

Provider-specific account identifier; and

Other information you authorize the provider to disclose.

We do not receive your third-party account password.

2.12 Customer Support, Surveys, and Research

We may collect information you provide when you:

Contact customer support;

Report a technical or safety issue;

Complete a survey;

Participate in research or product testing;

Submit feedback or a review;

Enter a promotion or contest; or

Communicate with us by email, telephone, social media, or another channel.

3. Information We Receive From Other Sources

We may receive information from:

Google and other authentication providers;

Payment and subscription processors;

Analytics and crash-reporting providers;

Advertising and sponsorship partners;

Event, education, and content partners;

Publicly available sources;

Other Culture Signal Media products and services;

Users who invite, mention, tag, or report you; and

Vendors assisting with fraud prevention, security, or account verification.

We may combine information obtained from these sources with information collected through The Signal when permitted by law.

4. How We Use Information

We may use information to:

Create, authenticate, maintain, and secure accounts.

Provide profiles, community feeds, messaging, connections, groups, and events.

Deliver Culture Signal Radio, podcasts, videos, interviews, and other media.

Operate My Journey, Beacon, creator tools, educational programs, and recommendations.

Process purchases, memberships, subscriptions, and registrations.

Personalize content, resources, programs, and community recommendations.

Send service-related communications and notifications.

Respond to questions, support requests, complaints, and feedback.

Moderate content and enforce our policies.

Detect and prevent fraud, spam, abuse, unauthorized access, and security threats.

Investigate reports and protect the safety and rights of users and others.

Analyze usage, performance, audience engagement, and feature effectiveness.

Develop, test, maintain, and improve the Services.

Promote The Signal and other Culture Signal Media programs, subject to your communication choices.

Comply with legal, regulatory, contractual, accounting, and tax obligations.

Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Complete a merger, financing, acquisition, restructuring, sale, or similar transaction.

Carry out another purpose disclosed to you at the time the information is collected.

5. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose information in the following circumstances.

5.1 At Your Direction

We disclose information when you direct us to do so, such as when you:

Publish a post;

Complete a public profile;

Send a message;

Join a group;

Register for an event;

Connect with another user;

Share content externally; or

Authorize integration with another service.

5.2 Other Users and the Public

Public-profile information, public posts, comments, reactions, event participation, creator listings, and similar activity may be visible to other users or the public.

Your privacy settings may allow you to limit the audience for certain information. Some information, such as your username and profile image, may remain visible to support community functionality and accountability.

5.3 Service Providers

We may disclose information to companies that perform services for us, including:

Cloud hosting and data storage;

Authentication and account management;

Artificial-intelligence infrastructure;

Email, text messaging, and push notifications;

Payment and subscription processing;

Analytics and crash reporting;

Customer support;

Content delivery and media streaming;

Security, fraud prevention, and moderation;

Database, search, and software services;

Marketing and campaign measurement; and

Professional legal, accounting, and consulting services.

These providers are permitted to process information only for authorized services or as otherwise allowed under their agreements and applicable law.

5.4 Content, Event, and Program Partners

When you register for or participate in a program offered with another organization, we may disclose relevant registration and participation information to that organization. We will provide additional notice when appropriate.

5.5 Advertising and Sponsorship Partners

The Signal may display advertisements, sponsored content, business listings, promotions, or partnership messages.

We may provide advertisers or sponsors with aggregated reporting, such as impressions, clicks, general audience categories, and campaign performance.

We do not provide advertisers with the contents of private messages, Beacon conversations, or private My Journey entries for advertising purposes.

5.6 Legal, Safety, and Policy Enforcement

We may preserve or disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to:

Comply with applicable law, legal process, or a governmental request;

Enforce our agreements and policies;

Investigate fraud, abuse, threats, or illegal activity;

Protect the rights, property, security, or safety of Culture Signal Media, our users, or others;

Prevent death, serious physical harm, or an emergency; or

Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

5.7 Business Transactions

Information may be disclosed in connection with a proposed or completed merger, acquisition, financing, investment, restructuring, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or transfer of all or part of our business.

Any successor handling personal information covered by this Privacy Policy will be required to provide appropriate notice before materially changing the applicable privacy practices.

5.8 Aggregated or De-identified Information

We may use and disclose information that has been aggregated, de-identified, or otherwise modified so that it cannot reasonably identify you.

We will not attempt to re-identify de-identified information except to test whether our de-identification processes are effective or as otherwise allowed by law.

6. Advertising and Sponsored Content

The Signal may contain:

Sponsored posts;

Display or native advertisements;

Promoted businesses or creators;

Sponsored programs or events;

Paid product placements;

Affiliate links; or

Promotional content from Culture Signal Media and its partners.

We may use general information, such as your selected interests, general location, app activity, or the context of the page you are viewing, to determine which promotions may be relevant.

We do not sell personal information for monetary compensation.

We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising unless we provide any legally required notice and opt-out mechanism before doing so.

We do not use the content of private messages, private Beacon conversations, or private My Journey entries to target advertisements.

You may still see contextual, general-interest, sponsored, or house advertising even after exercising an advertising-related privacy choice.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our websites and web-based Services may use:

Cookies;

Local storage;

Software development kits;

Pixels;

Tags;

Session technologies; and

Similar tools.

These technologies may be used to:

Keep you signed in;

Remember preferences;

Protect accounts;

Understand usage;

Measure performance;

Diagnose errors;

Prevent fraud;

Deliver media;

Measure promotions; and

Improve the Services.

Where required, we will provide cookie controls or obtain consent before using non-essential technologies.

Browser settings may allow you to block or delete cookies, but doing so may affect certain features.

8. Our Position on Selling and Sharing Personal Information

Culture Signal Media does not sell personal information in exchange for money.

We also do not intend to share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as that term may be defined under applicable privacy laws.

Service providers that process information on our behalf are not permitted to use it for unrelated independent purposes except as legally allowed.

If our practices materially change, we will update this Privacy Policy, provide any required notice, and make any legally required opt-out mechanism available.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to:

Maintain your account;

Provide requested Services;

Preserve community safety and security;

Complete transactions;

Resolve disputes;

Enforce agreements;

Prevent fraud and abuse;

Meet accounting, tax, and legal obligations; and

Protect or defend legal rights.

Retention periods depend on the type of information and why it was collected.

For example:

Account and profile information is generally retained while the account remains active.

Public and community content may remain available until deleted by you or removed through account deletion or moderation.

Transaction records may be retained as required for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, and legal purposes.

Security logs may be retained for a reasonable period necessary to investigate and prevent abuse.

Support communications may be retained to resolve issues and improve service.

Deleted information may remain temporarily in restricted backups until those backups are overwritten through our standard retention cycle.

When information is no longer reasonably necessary, we will delete, de-identify, or securely isolate it unless continued retention is required or permitted by law.

10. Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your The Signal account.

When a valid deletion request is completed, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with the account, subject to limited information that must be retained for:

Legal or regulatory compliance;

Fraud and abuse prevention;

Security investigations;

Payment, tax, and accounting records;

Dispute resolution;

Enforcement of agreements; or

Protection of the rights and safety of users or others.

Temporary deactivation or suspension is not the same as account deletion.

Some information may not disappear immediately from:

Content previously shared or copied by other users;

Messages retained in another user's account where deletion would affect that user's records;

Search-engine caches outside our control;

Restricted security systems; or

Encrypted backups that are overwritten according to our normal schedule.

Where possible, we will remove or de-identify your account information from remaining content.

11. Your Choices and Controls

Depending on the feature and your location, you may:

Review and update your account information;

Change profile visibility and audience settings;

Delete posts, comments, media, or other content;

Control push notifications through the app or device settings;

Unsubscribe from promotional emails;

Manage camera, microphone, photo, contact, notification, and location permissions;

Block or report users;

Leave groups or communities;

Cancel subscriptions through the platform where they were purchased;

Request access, correction, deletion, or portability of personal information; and

Exercise applicable advertising or privacy rights.

Service and security communications may continue even when you opt out of promotional communications.

12. Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and whether applicable legal requirements apply to Culture Signal Media, you may have the right to:

Know whether we process your personal information;

Request access to personal information;

Request correction of inaccurate information;

Request deletion of information;

Obtain a portable copy of certain information;

Opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, or profiling activities;

Limit certain uses of sensitive personal information;

Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;

Appeal a decision concerning a privacy request; and

Receive equal service without unlawful discrimination for exercising a privacy right.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Verification may include confirming access to your account or email address and requesting information reasonably necessary to match you with our records.

You may use an authorized agent where allowed by law. We may request proof that the agent is authorized to act on your behalf.

We will respond within the period required by applicable law. Certain requests may be denied or limited where an exception applies. When legally required, we will explain the basis for the decision and available appeal process.

13. California and Other U.S. State Disclosures

During the preceding twelve months, depending on how an individual used the Services, we may have collected the following categories of personal information:

Identifiers;

Customer-record information;

Commercial and transaction information;

Internet or electronic-network activity;

Audio, visual, or similar information;

We do not sell personal information for money. We do not use private messages, Beacon conversations, or private My Journey information for targeted advertising.

Where legally required, we will recognize applicable opt-out preference signals, including browser-based signals, when they can be associated with the relevant browser or device.

14. International Users and Legal Bases

Culture Signal Media, LLC is based in the United States. Information may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis for processing, we generally rely on:

Contractual necessity: To provide an account and requested Services.

Consent: For optional permissions, certain communications, and other activities where consent is required.

Legitimate interests: To operate, secure, improve, personalize, and protect the Services, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Legal obligations: To comply with applicable laws, court orders, tax requirements, and regulatory duties.

Protection of vital interests: To protect life or safety in an emergency.

Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international data transfers.

15. Security

Where legally required, we will notify affected individuals, regulators, business partners, or other appropriate parties.

17. Children's Privacy

The Signal is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without legally required parental authorization.

If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

A parent or legal guardian who believes that a child has submitted information may contact privacy@culturesignalmedia.com.

Users under the age of legal majority in their jurisdiction should use the Services only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian where required.

18. Third-Party Services and Links

The Signal may include links to or integrations with third-party websites, applications, social networks, payment services, streaming services, educational services, and other platforms.

A third party's privacy practices are governed by its own policies, not this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review those policies before providing information to the third party.

We are not responsible for the independent privacy or security practices of third-party services.

19. User-Generated Content and Removal Requests

Users are responsible for the information they post or share.

If content posted by another user contains your personal information, image, or other material you believe should be removed, you may:

Use the in-app reporting feature;

Contact our support team; or

Email privacy@culturesignalmedia.com.

We will review removal requests under our Community Standards, legal obligations, and the rights of all affected parties.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect:

New features or services;

Changes in data practices;

New service providers or integrations;

Security or operational changes;

Legal or regulatory developments; or

Changes to the structure of Culture Signal Media, LLC or The Signal.

When we make material changes, we will provide appropriate notice through the app, website, email, or another reasonable method.

The date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was most recently updated.

Your continued use of the Services after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes acknowledgment of the updated policy to the extent permitted by law. Where consent is legally required, we will request it separately.
